Songs of Life: Lifestyle Photography Round Up

I like photography.

I like all the little moments it captures, as well as the big ones.

My favourite thing about photos is how they freeze moments. There are things that we would just plain forget if they weren’t recorded on “film.”

I also love music. I think of life as having a soundtrack–it would be hard for me to think of a significant memory, feeling, or experience that didn’t have a corresponding piece of music.

That is what the Songs of Life photography group is about. Every couple of weeks a group of photographers and I will be sharing moments of our lives with you–capturing photos inspired by different songs.

This week’s piece? Here Comes The Sun by the Beatles. If you want, you can click the link to listen to the song while you look at the photos. I can’t wait to see everyone else’s submissions.

Here are mine:

My kids, enjoying life in the sun.

As it should be.

Knowing Their Limits

Today we took the kids down to the lake for the stat holiday. We thought we’d just let them play on the playground and dig in the sand, but to our delight and surprise, there was a whole carnival set up when we got there. I bought some tickets, and we set about showing Moses the different rides he was tall enough to go on. I was so excited about the possibilities.

Would he love the merry go round? Enjoy the tiny “roller coaster” that didn’t lift off the ground and was shaped like a turtle? Would he want to go on the planes and helicopter ride with the other small children? We thought we’d start him off with the merry go round, so I handed my camera to my hubby, boosted Moses up on a colourful horse, and waited for the ride to start. Unfortunately, before they even powered up, he decided this was NOT for him.

“I don’t like. . ” he said, and started to try to get down. And that was that.Image

After pointing out a couple of different rides he could go on (all of which he declined once he realized I would not be able to go on with him), we found a bouncy castle where he happily played for so long that we eventually had to fish him out, kicking and screaming, so the bouncy castle operator could go on her break. All in all, it was a good day.

And I am grateful. That my son, who is usually such a daredevil, apparently DOES have limits. That he is smart enough to know when he is not ready for a particular adventure. And that he knows that he does not want to do anything too crazy for the first time without his Mommy. ❤

My little girl felt the same way about the splash pad.

But her big brother loved it.
